Tom Nichols is a hardened New England detective, unflinching in his pursuit of a case where nothing is as it seems and it begins to dismantle the illusions in his own life.

Will Grady, portrayed by Justin Timberlake, is a real estate mogul hailing from Scarborough. He's currently in a romantic relationship with an agent named Summer, played by Matilda Lutz. Together, they specialize in flipping foreclosed properties, focusing on high-end homes in the area. Will's mother, Camille, portrayed by Frances Fisher, keeps a close watch on their endeavors, adding an extra layer of scrutiny to their operations.

However, beneath the surface, it becomes apparent that there's brewing tension in their relationship. One fateful day, their lives take a shocking turn. Will discovers the lifeless body of Summer, brutally murdered, when they meet at a house she's showing.
