WHAT CRITERIA MAKES IT WOKE?
WOKE EVIDENCE:
- While Amphibia is largely devoid of woke content, a refreshing change of pace from Disney's woke obsession over the last decade, this unfortunately changed during Season 3. After 2 seasons of family friendly, safe content, Amphibia decided to jump the "woke" shark during it's third and final season, coincidentally the show's only season aired entirely under Biden. First, a gay male couple showed up as background characters, and while at first they could easily be read as "just close friends", the plausible deniability was thrown right out the window, when one of the men is shown "proposing" to the other. While it's only during a quick gag scene, and they don't make as big of a stink out of it as say, a show like Steven Universe or The Owl House, it's still a disappointing instance of wokeness in an otherwise family friendly show. But it gets worse from there, as drag queen RuPaul shows up to play the federal agent "Mr. X", who is literally just a cartoon RuPaul. While Mr. X never dresses up in drag, he acts effeminately, and is shown watching a drag show during his free time. Then, a lesbian couple is integrated into the plot as the "IT girls", a tech support squad that could've easily just been two friends, without pointless homosexuality shoehorned in.
