PREVIEW ITGET ITREVIEW IT

Prequel to DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal. You are the DOOM Slayer in a medieval war against Hell — shield, mace, shotgun, and a dragon.

id Software still makes a game about ripping demons apart. No committee meeting. No identity seminar. Hell shows up, you kill it, the story is the Slayer’s legend told in blood and steel.

Look I'll be honest. I started up Dark Ages because Eternal had me doing gymnastics with a meat hook and I wanted to know if id still knew how to let you just hit something. They do. They gave the Slayer a shield and a mace and a dragon. I said "they gave him a dragon" to an empty room. Then I used the dragon. Three things. One: this is a war game wearing a shotgun. Medieval front. Battering rams. You are not a space marine who dropped in for a boss. You are infantry in a war against Hell, which is a sentence I have wanted from this series since 2016 pretended it was only an arena. The 2016 game was a pit. Eternal was a gym. This is a campaign. I compared it to the old ones because that's the job, and the old ones did not have a shield bash that felt like a penalty on third and short. Two: it's fantasy and they don't apologize. Demons, Atlan, a king, a priest class that I immediately distrusted. Hell is not a metaphor. Hell is the away team. You do not negotiate. You do not have a cutscene about who gets to hold the sword. You hold the sword. Three: the Slayer still doesn't talk, which is the correct amount of character development. I have played shooters where the hero weeps in a bunker about the military-industrial complex. This guy headbutts a Titan. Grade on the story: B, because it's a prequel and prequels have to show you the scar. Grade on the shooting: A. Average it to five because I did not once get lectured in a blacksmith shop. What doesn't work. A couple arenas remember they are arenas and the war movie stops. I wanted the siege to stay a siege. Also I still miss the Super Shotgun the way I miss a closer who got traded. It's in there. I wanted it more. Not a sermon. A war-fantasy action game where the plot is you are the weapon. I can sit with that. I played until two in the morning and then I did not slam the door, which, with this soundtrack, is a miracle.

Same rule as woke labels: one report, a written reason, and the community +1 or −1 it — once per member. A net +5 applies the change. Editors can also apply it immediately.

Woke labels

Members can file a published criterion and itemized evidence. Other members +1 or −1 that reason — once. If 10% of members who weighed in file a label, and a reason reaches net +5, that rank keeps the title omitted from the database. Weak labels do not.
