After being resurrected by the shadowy organization Cerberus, Commander Shepard must assemble and lead a specialized team on a suicide mission to stop the insectoid Collectors from abducting human colonies on behalf of the Reapers. Commander Shepard dies when an unknown alien ship destroys the SSV Normandy, but is miraculously brought back to life two years later by the pro-human organization Cerberus through the Lazarus Project. Tasked by the enigmatic Illusive Man, Shepard learns that entire human colonies are mysteriously vanishing across the galaxy. To investigate this threat, Shepard takes command of the new Normandy SR-2 and sets out to uncover the culprits.
