Enter the Chornobyl Anomalous Zone — a vast open world where anomalies, mutants, and rivals stand in your way. Explore, scavenge, and try to survive in this brutal and dangerous land.

GSC Game World finished this in Ukraine under actual war, not a diversity slide deck. The Zone does not care who you are. It will kill you anyway.

I wanted a plate of something heavy before I went into the Zone and then I remembered Skif is eating canned mystery and boiled whatever, so I made a sandwich and still felt overdressed. This is an action game until the air goes wrong. Then it's horror. Then it's sci-fi because the sky is doing math you are not invited to. Then it's a thriller because you have a bag of loot and three guys on a ridge who would like that bag. I kept changing what I thought I was playing, which is how the old ones felt too, the ones with the long title and the Pripyat photos on the box. Skif is a dope in the way I like. He wants a scanner and a way out and he keeps shaking hands with people I would not shake hands with. I defended him to the screen when he walked into an anomaly like a tourist. That's my guy. He owes me a beer and a cleaner pair of boots. The Zone does not care. That's the whole plot and I will not dress it up. Mutants, factions, a room that wants to fold you. GSC made this during an actual war, which I am not going to turn into a blurb, I'm just saying the dirt looks like dirt and the guns jam like guns. I forgive the clunkers. A menu hitch. A mutant that moonwalked once. If the people in the bar still feel like they have a tab open, I stay. I would play this with leftover stew and a window cracked. I would not call it pretty. I would call it a sci-fi horror thriller that remembered action is just how you get to the next bad decision. Four stars. The fifth is buried in an anomaly I am not going back for tonight.

Report a mistake

Same rule as woke labels: one report, a written reason, and the community +1 or −1 it — once per member. A net +5 applies the change. Editors can also apply it immediately.

Woke labels

Members can file a published criterion and itemized evidence. Other members +1 or −1 that reason — once. If 10% of members who weighed in file a label, and a reason reaches net +5, that rank keeps the title omitted from the database. Weak labels do not.
