When fifteen-year-old Tyson attends public school for the first time, his life is changed forever. While helping his father clean up after the football team, Tyson befriends champion marathon runner Aklilu.
Never letting his autism hold him back, Tyson becomes determined to run his first marathon in hopes of winning his father's approval.
With the help of an unlikely friend and his parents, Tyson learns that with faith in yourself and the courage to take the first step, anything is possible.

I cheered. I am not sorry! Tyson is a mess in the best way and his dad is a football coach who does not know how to talk to his own kid which, hello, I have met that man at every picnic. Major Dodson is actually autistic and they cast him as Tyson without knowing that at first, which I found out later and then sat there like, well that tracks. He is not a speech. He is a kid who wants to go to the school where Dad coaches because Mom is stuck on algebra. Dad (Rory Cochrane) agrees like he is signing a waiver. Amy Smart is the mom who is scared the new baby will be like Tyson, and the movie lets her be scared, which is rude and honest and I whispered "it's okay" at the TV as if she could hear me. Aklilu is the runner. Barkhad Abdi! I pointed. Captain Phillips energy except now he owns a shoe store and has a past with a failed race and a cold medicine that was on the bad list, which is a plot I only half followed and fully believed because he has a face that has already lost something. Tyson decides he is going to run a marathon to make his dad look at him. That is the whole engine and it is a good engine. There is a bully with a mirror on the floor, a teacher who gets it wrong, a storm, a pond, a tree branch, a snake that takes a deputy out of the search party, I am not kidding. I laughed in the wrong places because the movie keeps piling. Then the dad gets in the water with his kid and I stopped laughing. I may have said "get him out" out loud. I did say it. The race is the race. He falls. He gets up. A girl named Shannon likes him, which I called from the first hallway. The mayor thinks the kid shouldn't run. Dad skips a championship. I yelled "finally!" at the dad. The ending is the ending these movies have to have and I still teared up, which is embarrassing, and also the point. Would I watch it again. Yes, with snacks, and I would quote lines wrong the whole time. "You can do it Tyson!" — I don't think anyone even says that. I said it. That's my review!
