Whalefall

Jay Gardiner dives off the California coast after his father’s death, is swallowed by a sperm whale, and must use the hard lessons his father taught him to escape before his oxygen runs out. Whalefall follows Jay Gardiner, a diver still reeling from his father’s death, as he heads into the waters off the central coast of California hoping to locate what remains of the man he lost. The search turns catastrophic when a massive sperm whale engulfs him, trapping him inside its body with a dwindling air supply. Alone in the dark and racing against roughly one hour of oxygen, Jay confronts both the physical limits of his gear and the emotional weight of unfinished business with his dad. Memories of the practical and unforgiving instruction his father drilled into him begin to surface as the only tools he has left. Every decision—how to move, how to conserve air, how to keep panic from winning—
