Sometimes They Come Back follows Jim Norman, who accepts a high-school teaching post and moves his wife Sally and their young son back to the town he fled as a boy. Years earlier Jim watched a gang of local toughs murder his brother Wayne; those same youths later died in a violent crash, yet their presence still hangs over the place. Jim hopes the job and a quiet family life will let him put the past behind him. Instead, familiar faces begin to reappear among the students and on the streets. Threats, accidents, and deliberate harassment close in on the Normans as the spirits make clear they have unfinished business with the man who survived.

As the supernatural attacks intensify, Jim realizes the returned teenagers are not mere hallucinations but active killers bent on destroying him and everyone he loves. Sally and their son become targets, forcing Jim to confront both the old crime and the occult rules that keep the dead walking. He digs into the circumstances of the original murder and the later deaths, searching for any weakness that can stop the cycle. Allies are scarce and the town’s ordinary life offers little cover once the spirits escalate from intimidation to bloodshed. Jim must decide how far he will go—and what he is willing to risk—to end the haunting before his family pays the same price his brother did.
