After demons slaughter his family and turn his sister into one of them, Tanjiro Kamado trains as a demon slayer to restore her humanity and destroy the creatures responsible.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba follows Tanjiro Kamado, a gentle charcoal seller who returns from town to find his mountain home destroyed and nearly his entire family dead. His younger sister Nezuko has been turned into a demon, yet she still shields him instead of attacking, giving him hope she can be saved. A chance meeting with Water Hashira Giyu Tomioka spares them both and points Tanjiro toward the Demon Slayer Corps. He endures brutal mountain training under former Hashira Sakonji Urokodaki, learning Water Breathing forms and surviving the lethal Final Selection. Carrying Nezuko in a light-proof box, he sets out as a corps member determined to reverse her curse and hunt the demons who ruined their lives.

Tanjiro soon teams with Zenitsu Agatsuma, whose Thunder Breathing erupts only when fear knocks him out, and Inosuke Hashibira, a boar-masked brawler raised in the wild. Their early missions pit them against spider demons on Mount Natagumo and other servants of the Twelve Kizuki, the elite under demon progenitor Muzan Kibutsuji. Tanjiro’s unusual empathy lets him sense the human tragedies behind many demons even as he cuts them down to protect the living. Nezuko battles her own bloodlust and begins aiding the slayers in combat, deepening the siblings’ bond. Successive confrontations force the trio to sharpen their techniques, trust one another, and close in on Muzan’s network across Taisho-era Japan.
