Joshua Live

Sight & Sound's stage production of the biblical Joshua, filmed in front of a live audience, follows the Israelites from the Jordan River to the walls of Jericho as a new leader learns to trust God completely.

JOSHUA—Live! brings one of Sight & Sound Theatres' productions from its Lancaster, Pennsylvania stage to movie theaters to mark the company's fiftieth anniversary. The story picks up with the people of Israel trying to survive their new freedom in a harsh wilderness. Moses is gone, and Joshua is called to take his place as their leader. Supplies are running low, enemy armies are closing in, and the people are restless. One heavily fortified city, Jericho, still stands between them and the land they were promised. Joshua has to hold the nation together while learning to rely on God rather than on military strength.

Help comes from an unexpected place inside Jericho, as Rahab risks everything to shelter Israel's spies, and her story of mercy and redemption runs alongside Joshua's. The production fills the theater's 300-foot wraparound stage with towering sets, special effects and an original gospel-influenced score. Live animals, including camels, horses, donkeys, llamas, sheep and goats, share the stage with the cast. Cameras covered the whole stage so moviegoers see the action up close. The climax builds to the famous moment when the trumpets sound and the walls come down. Its central message is radical trust in God, presented as a family-friendly spectacle.
