Psycho-Pass: Providence IS WOKE
Chief Inspector Akane Tsunemori is pulled into a nationwide terrorist campaign by the Peacebreakers after an incident on a foreign vessel. She reunites with Shinya Kogami and her Public Security team to confront the threat inside a dystopian society ruled by the Sibyl System.
Psycho-Pass: Providence follows Chief Inspector Akane Tsunemori of the Public Security Bureau as a routine meeting is interrupted by a report of violence aboard a foreign vessel. That incident opens a larger case involving coordinated terrorist attacks across Japan by the paramilitary group called the Peacebreakers. Akane directs her unit of latent criminals while the Sibyl System continues to score citizens for potential crime. The investigation quickly requires outside help from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has prior experience fighting the same group. Former companion Shinya Kogami returns from mercenary work abroad to join the effort. Their combined pursuit forces immediate tactical choices and raises questions about how far the Bureau can go to stop the escalating attacks.
As the Peacebreakers press their campaign, Akane and Kogami dig into the group's origins and the foreign connections that brought the case to Japanese soil. Old working relationships resurface and test trust inside the Bureau and with the Ministry agents. Akane, now a seasoned inspector, must weigh her long-held ideals about justice against the practical need to neutralize the terrorists before more civilians die. The team races through cyberpunk cityscapes and high-stakes confrontations that reveal how the Sibyl System's control can both protect and constrain them. Personal histories and ethical dilemmas drive the later turns, linking the present crisis to earlier events in the franchise while setting the stage for what follows. The film closes on the cost of those choices rather than easy resolution.
WHAT CRITERIA MAKES IT WOKE?
WOKE EVIDENCE:
- : The narrative framework turns traditional religious iconography and scripture on its head by directly connecting them to systemic terrorism and violent fanaticism. The antagonistic paramilitary faction, the Peacebreakers, utilizes explicit Christian Bible verses, theological arguments, and spiritual terminology to justify their coordinated mass casualty attacks and subversion of societal laws. The script positions their continuous citations of holy texts as the primary ideological foundation for execution, torture, and cold-blooded murder.
